The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says Okey Ezeala is not its Deputy National Publicity Secretary and does not hold any position in the party’s national leadership. The party also warned members not to deal with him on its behalf.
NDC Disclaimer Targets Okey Ezeala
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says Okey Ezeala does not serve as its Deputy National Publicity Secretary.
National Publicity Secretary Osa Director Esq. signed the statement. He said the party never elected or appointed Ezeala to the position. He also said Ezeala does not belong to the National Executive Committee (NEC) or the National Working Committee (NWC).
According to Politics Nigeria, the party released the disclaimer after it received complaints from members in several states. The complaints alleged that Ezeala presented himself as a national officer of the NDC.
The NDC said only recognised party officials can speak or act for the organisation.
Party Warns Members Against Okey Ezeala
The party accused Ezeala of impersonation and urged members and the public not to conduct party business with him.
It said some members reported that Ezeala promised party tickets and political appointments. The party also alleged that he asked people to pay money even though he had no authority to make those promises.
The NDC further alleged that Ezeala organised an unauthorised congress in Abia State. It said the exercise produced a parallel executive that the party does not recognise.
The statement added that Ezeala has never held a recognised leadership position in the NDC at the national, state or local government level.
The party urged members to confirm the identity of anyone claiming to represent the NDC before making political or financial commitments.
It also said Ezeala cannot conduct meetings, issue directives, collect funds, negotiate political arrangements or represent the party in any official capacity.
The NDC said no organ of the party authorised Ezeala to act on its behalf. It also urged members to reject any documents, statements or commitments that he issues in the party’s name.
First Nigerian reports that the party asked anyone affected by Ezeala’s alleged activities to submit a formal complaint to the office of the National Secretary for investigation.
