The Super Falcons will face Cameroon in the WAFCON 2026 quarter-finals after Nigeria defeated Egypt 6-2 in their final group-stage match in Rabat.
Nigeria needed a win to stay in contention for a place in the last eight after collecting one victory and one defeat from their opening two matches. The final qualification outcome also depended on the result between Malawi and Zambia.
Asisat Oshoala gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot before Gift Monday doubled the advantage after coming on as a first-half substitute. Egypt reduced the deficit before the break, but Uchenna Kanu restored Nigeria’s two-goal lead shortly after the restart.
Christy Ucheibe scored from the penalty spot before Egypt added another goal through Nadin Yasser Ezzat Ghazy. Rasheedat Ajibade and Joy Omewa completed the scoring as the Super Falcons finished the match with six goals.
Nigeria’s victory placed the team in the quarter-finals, where the Super Falcons will meet Cameroon on Sunday.
The fixture will bring together two West African rivals with Nigeria aiming to extend their record at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after winning the tournament 10 times.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade provided another attacking contribution against Egypt by scoring Nigeria’s fifth goal late in the match. The Atletico Madrid forward has remained one of Nigeria’s main attacking options during the competition.
Super Falcons coach Justine Madugu said the team showed determination during the qualification fight.
“We showed character and determination. The players believed until the end and fought for this qualification,” Madugu said.
Nigeria will now prepare for Cameroon as the knockout stage begins, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
