Calls for prayers flooded social media after posts about Sam Larry’s road crash sparked fears over his condition and fuelled false reports that the music promoter had died — FirstNigerian.com reports.
Comedian and MC Mario Wazobia triggered the wave of concern when he shared Instagram posts urging the public to pray for Sam Larry, saying the music promoter had gone to the hospital after a serious road accident.
The posts quickly spread across social media, and rumours soon claimed that Sam Larry had died. Other unverified reports alleged that he suffered severe leg injuries that could lead to amputation.
Akin Abolade, popularly known as Mr Lilgaga and an associate of Sam Larry, dismissed those claims.
Speaking with PUNCH Online, Abolade said Sam Larry survived the crash and that he spoke with him shortly after the accident.
“Yes, he’s alive and not dead, but his condition cannot be ascertained because of how bad the accident was. We spoke after the accident. He’s alive, and I’m sure of that,” he said.
The crash reportedly happened in the early hours of Saturday along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road in Lagos State. Sam Larry’s vehicle reportedly collided with a trailer, leaving the car badly damaged.
Videos from the scene quickly spread online, showing the wreckage. The crash also killed Sam Larry’s bouncer, identified only as Wale.
Abolade said he could not confirm reports that Sam Larry suffered severe leg injuries or that doctors might amputate his legs.
Authorities have not released an official update on Sam Larry’s medical condition or the cause of the crash. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
