ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026: Application & $65,000 Prize

ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026 applications are open for eligible West African startups seeking a share of $65,000. Find the requirements, sectors, application process and August 31 deadline.

The ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026 are open to eligible startups across West Africa, with $65,000 in cash prizes available to the top three winners. Applications opened on August 3, 2026, and close on August 31, 2026.

The competition will select 60 startups from 12 participating ECOWAS member states across six sectors, with the regional finals scheduled for September 30, 2026, in Abuja.

How to Apply for ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026

Applicants must register through the ECOWAS Startup Awards application portal before completing the online application.

After creating an account, applicants can access the application form, which contains Sections A to J.

The form asks applicants to provide details about their startup, innovation, market, team, business model and finances. Applicants can save an unfinished form and return to complete it before submission.

ECOWAS Startup Awards Eligibility

Startups based in participating ECOWAS member states can enter the competition.

Applicants must be citizens of an ECOWAS member state and operate a startup registered and based in an ECOWAS country.

The startup must have operated for at least two years, have a working product or service, and demonstrate market traction or scalability.

Application Requirements

Applicants must prepare the required documents before submitting their forms.

The application requires:

  • National passport or accepted ECOWAS identity document
  • Recent passport photograph
  • Business registration certificate, where applicable
  • Two years of financial statements, management accounts or financial projections
  • Business plan of no more than 10 pages
  • Pitch deck of no more than 10 slides
  • One-minute pitch video

The pitch video must use MP4, MOV or WebM format and must not exceed 100MB.

ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026 Prize Money

The competition offers $65,000 across three positions:

The winner will receive $30,000, while the first and second runners-up will receive $20,000 and $15,000, respectively.

The 2026 competition covers six sectors:

  3. HealthTech
  4. AgriTech and Food Systems
  5. CleanTech, Climate and Green Innovation
  6. Tourism, Hospitality and TravelTech

The programme will select 60 startups from the 12 participating ECOWAS member states.

Awards Selection Criteria

Judges will assess applications using eight criteria:

The criteria carry a combined 100 points.

The national selection stage will provide part of each country’s allocated places, while the remaining places will come through open applications. Finalists will then pitch before an independent jury comprising industry experts, investors and policy stakeholders.

Awards Benefits

Selected startups will receive benefits beyond the cash prizes.

These include investor access through deal rooms, networking with founders and development partners, regional exposure, mentorship and a six-month acceleration programme.

Selected participants may also receive digital tools such as computers, accessories and software.

First ECOWAS Startup Awards

The first ECOWAS Startup Awards took place in Niamey, Niger, in November 2021.

The 2026 programme is the second edition of the awards.
