The former Anambra State governor said his decision will depend on the outcome of the 2027 presidential election and the zoning arrangement for future elections.
Obi spoke during an interview with media personality Rufai Oseni, where he discussed his political future and possible plans after 2027.

Obi said his chances of contesting the 2031 presidential election depend on how political zoning plays out after the 2027 election.
He explained that if the presidency moves to the North in 2031, he would be 78 years old by the time power is expected to return to the South.
According to Obi, his age could influence his decision to seek the presidency again.
“If it goes North in 2031, by the time it comes again to the South, I will be 78 years old, and I don’t think I would be doing this at that age,” he said.
However, Obi said he could consider another presidential bid if the political arrangement keeps the presidency in the South in 2031.

The Peter Obi political future debate has continued ahead of the 2027 election, with the former presidential candidate saying he will decide his next move after the election outcome.
Obi recalled that a secondary school student asked him whether he would contest again after 2027.
He said the decision would depend on the country’s political situation and the zoning arrangement.
“If it’s still in the South in the next election, maybe, but the probability is very slim. I don’t know until after the outcome of the 2027 election,” Obi added.
