The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has mourned the death of veteran journalist and Ibadan chief, Chief Lekan Alabi, who died in Lagos on Saturday at 76.
Ladoja described Alabiโs death as devastating and heartbreaking in a statement issued by his media aide, Chief Adeola Oloko, in Ibadan.
Alabi built a career in journalism and public relations and served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State.
Ladoja also recalled his childhood friendship with Alabi, saying they grew up together in the Born Photo Isale-Osi area of Ibadan.
The Olubadan said Alabi had a remarkable memory and often shared stories about their childhood.
Beyond journalism, Alabi played an active role in promoting Ibadan customs and traditions.
Ladoja recalled working with Alabi when he served as acting chairman of the Ibadan South East Traditional Council. He described the late chief as punctual and a strong contributor to discussions on traditional and customary matters.
Ladoja extended his condolences to Alabiโs family and prayed for the repose of his soul.
