LeBron James’ next team has become one of the biggest NBA talking points ahead of the new season, with fans continuing to ask whether the Los Angeles Lakers star will stay or move elsewhere. While several teams remain in contention, veteran NBA writer David Aldridge believes the Minnesota Timberwolves offer the best destination for the four-time NBA champion.
Why Minnesota Leads The Race For LeBron
Writing for The Athletic, Aldridge argued that Minnesota gives LeBron James the strongest basketball fit as he prepares for what could become his 24th NBA season.
Aldridge highlighted a Timberwolves core that features Anthony Edwards, Rudy Gobert, LaMelo Ball and Jaden McDaniels. He said that group would allow James to play at power forward while taking advantage of the team’s defensive structure and reliable three-point shooting.
In addition, Aldridge noted that Minnesota reached the Western Conference Finals in consecutive seasons, giving James the opportunity to join an established contender.
He also praised the Timberwolves’ perimeter shooting, pointing to Edwards, McDaniels, Ball and Ayo Dosunmu as players who can create more space on offence.
LeBron James Next Team: Cleveland, Philadelphia And Miami Remain Options
However, Minnesota does not stand alone in the race for James.
The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to attract attention because of James’ history with the franchise and the team’s status among the Eastern Conference contenders.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers strengthened their roster by adding Jaylen Brown to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, keeping them in the conversation for James.
The Miami Heat also remain a possible destination after James enjoyed a successful spell with the franchise and won two NBA championships there.
For now, James has not revealed where he plans to play next season.
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists for the Lakers last season as speculation over his next team continues.
