Temitope Osoba’s cause of death remains unclear after her fiancé, Prophet Itunu Onadeko, said he was told the Nollywood actress died at a police station in Ikorodu, Lagos.
Onadeko made the claim during an interview with the Celestial Reality Check media investigative unit of the Celestial Church of Christ on Saturday.
He said he learnt about Osoba’s death from an unidentified caller around midnight.
“It was a random person that called me around 12 am that she died in a police station in Ikorodu,” Onadeko said.
The fiancé did not identify the police station and his account does not establish the medical cause of Osoba’s death.
His statement also comes days after Osoba’s family warned against reports about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Awonuga/Osoba family said claims circulating on social media and blogs were “false, speculative, and entirely unauthorised” and urged the public to rely on statements issued through official channels.
Osoba, who was 40, had previously battled breast cancer and underwent treatment before announcing her return to acting in August 2025. Reports following her death initially linked her illness to speculation about the cause, although no confirmed medical cause has been established in the reports reviewed.
Her death was announced on August 5 by fellow actors, including Alesh Sanni. The actress had worked in Yoruba-language Nollywood films and appeared in productions including Gucci Girls.
Osoba’s family has fixed her burial for Thursday, August 13, 2026, in Iperu Remo, Ogun State.
