Early Life and Education
Oborevwori was born to Chief Samuel Oborevwori and Mrs Esther Oborevwori in Osubi, Delta State.
He attended Alegbo Primary School in Effurun and completed his primary education in 1977. He later attended Aladja Grammar School and Oghareki Grammar School.
Oborevwori studied Political Science at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, and graduated in 2004 with a second-class upper degree. He earned a master’s degree in Political Science from Delta State University, Abraka, in 2010.
His further training included programmes at Manchester Business School, the London School of Economics and Political Science, the University of Cambridge, Georgia Institute of Technology and the International Law Institute in Washington, DC.
Sheriff Oborevwori Political Career
Oborevwori entered elected politics in 1996 as a councillor in Okpe Local Government and also served as Supervisory Councillor for Works. From 1996 to 2003, he chaired Osubi Community. In 2003, the Okpe Kingdom gave him the traditional title of Ukodo.
He then served in several Delta State government positions. He worked as Special Assistant on Youth Development from 2003 to 2006, Special Adviser on Land Security from 2007 to 2010, State Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme from 2009 to 2010 and Senior Special Assistant on Security from 2012 to 2014.
Delta State House of Assembly
Oborevwori won the Okpe Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly in 2015.
Lawmakers elected him Speaker on 11 May 2017. He retained his Assembly seat in 2019 and remained Speaker until he became governor in May 2023.
He served as Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria from 2018 to 2020 and later became its Deputy Chairman from 2020 to 2023. The Delta State Government says the Assembly passed 81 bills during his tenure as Speaker.
2023 Governorship Election
Oborevwori won the PDP governorship primary before the 2023 general election.
On 18 March 2023, he polled 360,234 votes to defeat APC candidate Ovie Omo-Agege, who received 240,229 votes. Oborevwori took the oath of office on 29 May 2023 at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, with Monday Onyeme as deputy governor.
Governorship and 2027 Election
Oborevwori runs his administration under the MORE Agenda, which covers Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security. The Delta State Government lists infrastructure, healthcare, human capital development, youth empowerment, women’s empowerment and economic development among its priorities.
The administration has listed the DSC Flyover, PTI Flyover, Enerhen Junction Flyover, Otovwodo Flyover, Uromi Junction Flyover, Ode-Itsekiri Road and Bridges, Ogulaha Bridge, Asaba Waterfront Roads and Summit Road expansion among its infrastructure projects. It has also reported hospital upgrades and the installation of MRI and dialysis equipment.
Oborevwori left the PDP for the APC in April 2025 alongside former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa and other political figures.
He won the APC governorship primary on 21 May 2026 after receiving 345,375 votes in the direct primary across Delta State’s 25 local government areas. Delta Central APC later endorsed him for the 2027 governorship election in July 2026.
