The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has defended the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election after former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje criticised the alliance.
Ganduje described the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as “dead on arrival”, saying the two former governors lacked the political strength and records required to win the 2027 presidential election.
The NDC rejected the comment and backed Obi and Kwankwaso’s chances in the next presidential race.
NDC Replies Ganduje Over Obi-Kwankwaso Presidential Ticket
NDC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Abdulmumin Abdulsalam dismissed Ganduje’s remarks during an interview with The Punch.
“I think Ganduje is just blabbing,” Abdulsalam said.
He accused Ganduje of losing political influence in Kano and said the NDC would defeat the APC in the state during the 2027 elections.
Abdulsalam said the party expected to win state assembly seats, senatorial seats, House of Representatives seats and the governorship election in Kano.
“We are confident of clearing all the state Assembly seats. We are also confident of winning the senatorial, House of Representatives and governorship elections as well,” he said.
He also pointed to Kwankwaso’s political base in Kano and noted that Ganduje previously served as his deputy governor.
Obidient Movement Defends Obi and Kwankwaso’s Records
National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, Yunusa Tanko, also responded to Ganduje’s comments.
Tanko defended the records of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, highlighting their time as governors of Anambra and Kano states.
He claimed Obi left ₦75 billion in Anambra State government accounts after his tenure as governor.
Tanko also cited infrastructure projects and scholarship programmes introduced during Kwankwaso’s administration in Kano State.
According to him, the programmes produced professionals, including pilots, nurses and engineers.
He said Ganduje’s criticism of the two former governors was wrong.
“His statement and attempt to discredit the duo are dead on arrival,” Tanko said.
The NDC and the Obidient Movement’s reactions followed Ganduje’s comments on the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket as political parties prepare for the 2027 presidential election.
