Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has said President Bola Tinubu must leave office after the 2027 general election.
Melaye made the statement on his X account on Wednesday, August 19, as he commented on developments involving Tinubu and a case before a United States court.
He wrote: “Home is calling. work plenty for home….Tinubu must go. Venezuela go happen for Naija.”
Melaye did not explain what he meant by the reference to Venezuela or state what event he expected to happen in Nigeria.
His post came as a US court considered a request involving records linked to Tinubu. US District Judge Beryl Howell had granted US Attorney Jeanine Pirro additional time in proceedings over records requested under the Freedom of Information Act.
The case followed requests by US activist Aaron Greenspan for records held by American government agencies, including the Department of Justice, FBI and Drug Enforcement Administration.
Meanwhile, reports connected Melaye’s Venezuela reference with the January 2026 arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, by US authorities.
US prosecutors charged Maduro with drug trafficking and weapons-related offences after his arrest.
Melaye has previously criticised Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress while speaking about Nigeria’s political direction ahead of the 2027 election.
The former senator represented Kogi West in the Senate between 2015 and 2019.
