Governor Ademola Adeleke has won the 2026 Osun State governorship election after defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner on Sunday, August 16, following the collation of results from the state’s 30 local government areas.
Adeleke, who contested on the Accord Party platform, secured 511,067 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
The final figures gave Adeleke a 66,252-vote lead over Oyebamiji.
Meanwhile, Adeleke won 19 LGAs, while Oyebamiji secured 11. Oyebamiji won Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
Prof Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, the State Returning Officer, announced the winner after completing the collation in Osogbo.
Ogunwole declared: “That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declare the winner of the August 15 Governorship election and returned elected.”
INEC recorded 985,079 valid votes, 20,721 rejected votes and 1,005,800 total votes cast.
Earlier, Adeleke’s supporters celebrated as results from the local government areas came in, while Davido posted a message on X after the declaration.
Davido wrote: “WE DID IT UNC!!! 🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬”
He posted the message while celebrating his uncle’s victory.
