Nigerian singer Davido has alleged that soldiers tried to stop him from entering Osun State as voters prepared to cast their ballots in the governorship election on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, made the claim in a post on X in the early hours of Saturday.
“I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow,” Davido wrote.
He added: “This won’t happen; every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time.”
The claim came as security agencies enforced movement restrictions across Osun for the election.
The Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction on movement from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6pm on Saturday, August 15.
The restriction covers movement across the state during voting, with security agencies controlling access to major roads.
Davido has backed his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, ahead of the election. He has also campaigned for the governor during the election period.
Former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad responded to Davido’s post and pointed to the movement restriction.
“You are just dramatic, @davido,” Ahmad wrote.
He said the restriction applied to everyone during the election.
“It has been widely announced by the security operators that movement in and around Osun will be restricted from 12 midnight today until 6 pm today due to the election and this is a standard security measure during elections anywhere not peculiar to Osun,” Ahmad said.
Ahmad also said the restriction did not remove citizens’ rights but required people to follow election security measures.
“So the right to freedom of movement does not mean ignoring lawful security measures put in place to ensure a peaceful and credible election,” he said.
Davido made the claim after returning from the United Kingdom, where he performed at a concert on Friday, August 14.
Meanwhile, security agencies deployed personnel across Osun ahead of voting in the state’s 30 local government areas.
BusinessDay reported that no independent confirmation had established that soldiers received a specific order to stop Davido from entering Osun.
The allegation came hours before voters began casting ballots across the state.
