Rotimi Amaechi has urged opposition parties to work together ahead of the 2027 general election as a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, visited him following the death of his mother.

Amaechi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, received the delegation on Tuesday and said opposition leaders should find areas where they can work together before the election.

The former Rivers State governor said Nigeria’s interests should come before individual political ambitions. He also warned that a divided opposition could give the All Progressives Congress (APC) an easier path to victory in 2027.

Turaki led the delegation to offer condolences to Amaechi over the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Amaechi.

“Nothing prepares anybody for the loss of a parent, especially a mother,” Turaki said.

He added that the delegation could only imagine the grief faced by Amaechi and his family.

Turaki also recalled Amaechi’s years in the PDP, where he served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly before becoming governor.

Amaechi later spoke about his mother’s role in raising him and his siblings, recalling the sacrifices made by his parents.

The condolence visit brought Turaki, a PDP figure, together with Amaechi, who now represents the ADC ahead of the 2027 election.
