Lil Kesh, whose real name is Keshinro Ololade, was born on 7 March 1999 in Bariga, Lagos, Nigeria. The area had a big influence on his music and the way he writes his songs.
He went to Stockbridge College for both primary and secondary school. Later, he studied Linguistics at the University of Lagos and also took an online Mass Communication course at the National Open University, showing he wanted to keep learning while building his music career.
Musical Beginnings
Lil Kesh started rapping in 2012, performing with his friends in Bariga and getting noticed locally.
He officially entered the Nigerian music scene on 2 January 2014 when he released his first single, Lyrically. The song became very popular in universities and got rapper Viktoh’s attention, who then showed it to Olamide.
Olamide liked his talent and signed Lil Kesh to his record label, YBNL Nation (Yahoo Boy No Laptop Nation).
Breakthrough with YBNL and “Shoki”
In 2014, Lil Kesh released a song called Shoki. Lots of people liked it very quickly. The song came with a fun dance style, and everyone was dancing to it in clubs and seeing it on TV.
Later, two big music stars, Olamide and Davido, joined him to make a remixed version of the song. Even more people watched and listened to it, and it got over 10 million views on YouTube.
The Nigerian Broadcast Commission said the song was not very good for radio, but people still loved it. Because of Shoki, Lil Kesh became very popular, and many people started to know his name.
After Shoki, he released more hit songs like Gbese, Efejoku, and Is It Because I Love You?
In March 2016, he released his first album, Young And Getting It (Y.A.G.I). The album mixed afro-pop, rap, and hip-hop, and featured big artists like Phyno, Ycee, Wale, Patoranking, Adekunle Gold, Davido, Viktoh, Olamide, and Chinko Ekun.
Songs from the album, including Lyrically, Efejoku, Is It Because I Love You?, and Ibile, were played a lot on the radio and in clubs.
Awards and Recognition
Lil Kesh’s early success earned him multiple accolades. In 2014, he won the tooXclusive Award for Earth Shaking Collaboration (Shoki Remix featuring Olamide and Davido) and Best Street-Hop Track.
He was nominated for Best Street-Hop Artiste at The Headies 2014 and Best New Act at the 2015 Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Other recognitions included Song of the Year at the Nigerian Teens Choice Awards, Most Popular Song of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards, and Hottest Song on the Street at the COSON Song Awards.
He also received nominations from MTV Africa Music Awards, African Muzik Magazine Awards, and various categories at The Headies and City People Awards.
Independent Career and YAGI Records
After two years with YBNL, Lil Kesh established his own record label, YAGI Records (Young And Getting It), managed by Massive Management.
The label allowed him to release singles independently, including Bend Down Select, Again O (2018), Flenjor featuring Duncan Mighty (2018), Undertaker (2019), All The Way (2020), Too Sweet (2020), Love Like This featuring Fireboy DML (2021), Korope featuring Naira Marley (2021), Agbani Darego (2021), Yagi Level (2021), and Don’t Call Me featuring Zinoleesky (2022).
He has performed at major concerts in Nigeria, such as Olamide’s Made in Lagos concert, Marlian Festival, and K1 De Ultimate Live in Lagos in 2019, as well as internationally in London and Germany.
Artistry and Style
Lil Kesh makes different kinds of music like afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae.
He raps and sings, often in Yoruba, just like his mentor Olamide.
Some people don’t like that he uses a lot of slang and rough language, but Lil Kesh says his music is mostly for people from the streets.
He also said he wants to make more positive and balanced songs in the future.
Other Ventures and Endorsements
Beyond music, Lil Kesh launched the Titikeshinro Clothing Line, although details about the business remain limited. He also has a confirmed endorsement deal with SureBet, reportedly facilitated by Olamide.
Streaming Revenue
Streaming is one of Lil Kesh’s main sources of income. On Spotify, he has about 372,000 listeners each month and earns a small amount for every stream. On YouTube, his music videos have passed 50 million views, bringing in an estimated $250,000.
His net worth has increased gradually over time. It was about $700,000 in 2020, rose to $850,000 in 2021, $900,000 in 2022, and reached around $1 million from 2023 onwards. Most of his money comes from music sales, streaming platforms, live shows, and earnings from his record label.
Lifestyle: Houses and Cars
Lil Kesh enjoys a luxurious lifestyle. He owns a house in Lekki, Lagos, purchased around 2016, and a home for his mother in Bariga. His car collection includes a Mercedes-Benz C-Class (2016, ~30 million Naira), Range Rover Sport (30–50 million Naira), Mercedes-Benz C400 (~20 million Naira), and an additional car gifted to his mother.
Career Challenges and Controversies
Over his career, Lil Kesh has sometimes stepped back from the spotlight. Observers say this is because of stress, management choices, and the tough competition in Nigeria’s music industry.
He has openly discussed mental health challenges, including long-standing anxiety and self-diagnosed ADHD, which sometimes made it difficult to focus and stay stable. At times, he even withdrew from the music scene due to emotional strain.
Around 2016, he left YBNL to launch his own label, YAGI (Young And Getting It). Running his label independently proved challenging because he no longer had the support and resources of YBNL. Critics noted that funding, promotion, and consistent releases became more difficult, which affected comparisons with his earlier success.
He has also faced public controversies. In 2024, he received criticism on social media for claiming to have invented a new hairstyle, which many said was not original and seemed like an attempt to attract attention. In August 2025, he survived a violent robbery and attempted murder at his Lagos home, sustaining serious neck injuries. Police later arrested suspects linked to the crime.
Lil Kesh Net Worth
Lil Kesh has a net worth of about $1 million to $1.5 million (around ₦1.1–1.5 billion) in 2025–2026. Some say it could be as high as $2 million, but one site says over $20 million. I don’t know if that figure can be trusted.
He makes money in different ways. He earns from his songs, especially hits like “Shoki,” and the money he gets when people stream his music on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Music. Kesh also earns from performing live shows in Nigeria and other countries. Brands pay him for deals, and he runs his own record label called YAGI Records. All these things together add up to his net worth.
Comparison with Naira Marley
Lil Kesh and Naira Marley are peers with similar net worths of over $1 million.
However, in streaming, Marley beats Lil Kesh with over 200 million YouTube views and 500,000+ monthly Spotify followers to Kesh’s 50 million YouTube views and 372,000 Spotify followers.
Marley also has more endorsement contracts, including gift card and Bitcoin endorsement deals with Patricia.
Personal Life
Lil Kesh keeps his personal life out of the public eye. He is single, has no children, and stays closely connected to Bariga, where he grew up. He often supports upcoming artists from his community.
