Dele Momodu has urged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to support Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15, 2026 governorship election.
Momodu, an ADC member, said opposition parties should rally behind Adeleke instead of splitting their votes among several candidates.
“I am still a member of ADC, but I am backing Adeleke,” Momodu said.
He explained that his decision came from his call for opposition parties to work together in Osun State. According to Momodu, opposition votes could weaken their chances if different parties remain focused on their own candidates.
Meanwhile, Adeleke is seeking a second term under the Accord Party after winning the 2022 Osun governorship election as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate.
The ADC has fielded former Osun State House of Assembly Speaker Najeem Salaam as its candidate, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) is contesting the election with Bola Oyebamiji.
As a result, Momodu’s support for Adeleke differs from the ADC’s decision to field its own candidate.
Momodu also cited Adeleke’s record in office while explaining his position. He praised the governor’s work in infrastructure, education, healthcare, workers’ welfare and youth development.
Earlier, Momodu urged Adeleke to prepare for a difficult election and called for greater cooperation among opposition parties.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) scheduled the Osun governorship election for August 15, 2026. Fourteen candidates are contesting the election.
